Family Health

As per the World Health Organization, health is "a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity." A family can also be seen as a unit of health: if one member is ill, all members are susceptible to catching an illness.

The first time you go to the doctor, they ask for your medical history. This includes not only recent problems but also those of close relatives going back at least two generations. Many common diseases can be inherited from ancestors and should therefore be taken into consideration when examining a person’s genetic makeup.

The most important thing any new patient must do is give their entire medical history—including that of family members who are related by blood or marriage—to doctors during each visit, because many conditions may have ancestral roots and need further follow-up research to find treatment options for an individual’s particular condition.
